[audio]Tomorrowland - Variable [ramp316]
Since 1996, Tomorrowland have been releasing their critically-acclaimed vision of abstract, minimal rock. Recorded between 2000 and 2001, the five songs found here on Variable represent the most advanced stage in Tomorrowland's evolution of sound. Arrays of filtered guitar passages are backed with a kaliedoscope of synthetic particles that ricochet into epic compositions. "Undoubtedly the work of people who creep about exploding campanile and symphony orchestras just to shudder joyfully in the v...

[audio]Tomorrowland - Microbe [ramp302] - Tomorrowland
The reason why Ann Arbor duo Tomorrowland have succeeded in freeing themselves from the ten ton weight that is the "Michigan space rock" tag is their reluctance to ever give into said genre's pointless noodling. Instead, Steve Baker and Nick Brackney choose to investigate a more inner, personal space - such as the buzzing domes and golden highways of circuitry, and the subatomic waltz of cell division...

[audio]Allele Memetic - Almond Milk [ramp3007] - Allele Memetic
Throughout history, almonds have maintained social significance. Explorers consumed almonds while travelling the Silk Road between Asia and the Mediterranean. The Romans showered newlyweds with almonds as a fertility charm. The almond tree was brought to California from Spain in the mid-1700s by the Franciscan Padres. The debut release from Allele Memetic (1/2 of the Tomorrowland duo) delivers an elegant set of six mellow pop instrumentals.

[audio]Idmonster - The Pleasures of Life [ramp306]
Idmonster is the 'nom de rec' of Brighton's own sound fiddler, Pendle Poucher. His new release, The Pleasures of Life, is an edited version of a longer project available online but is still fairly sweet in this streamlined format. Mr. Poucher spurts out smoothly snakey electronica delineated from the pack by excellent use of (presumably) live guitars and other humanistic touches that remove the 'machine primacy' feel that marks so much similar work in this field...

[audio]Candy Chang - Typography/Gestalt [RAmp313] - Candy Chang
Some of Candy's finest tracks are collected here for your downloading pleasure - the four razor-sharp synthpop tracks from her 2003 Typography 12" + a handful of her electro highlights from 2000-2004. Fiercely polished electro with rocked-out soul. Thick driving percussion, lowriding vintage bass for boomin' systems, and sparkling analogue keyboard lines conjure sharp modernist grids, colorful scenes from tomorrow's discotheques, robots with dirty minds, and half-forgotten night-drives through ...

We're honored to present 4 exciting rounds of the ongoing aerial slugfest between mental tsp and Sub.q. The stakes are high & the tension is palpable: just when it seems contender tsp might fall, he charges back with a thundering bassline and a series of sharp filtered jabs - only to once again meet sub.q's synthetic fury. The winner? You, dear listener.

[audio]Konsumprodukt - Forthcoming Joy

[audio]No title - Candy Chang
Fiercely polished electro with rocked-out soul. Thick driving percussion, lowriding vintage bass for boomin' systems, and sparkling analogue keyboard lines conjure sharp modernist grids, colorful scenes from tomorrow's discotheques, robots with dirty minds, and half-forgotten night-drives through Babylon. Candy Chang is remarkably able to glance back at Prince and Cybotron, while keeping her designer's eye fixed on a new style and sound all her own...

[audio]KinoSport - The Bolshevik Catalogue [ramp310]
"Like a transmission from Sputnik lost in the vaccuum of space, Kino-Glaz's tinkling binary melodies tumble out of your speakers, free from the chains of gravity. Impressionist robot funk for the proletariat." - Jason Olariu "Automatic killfest" - Integrated Arts The Bolshevik Catalogue was originally released as a full-length under a different project name (bonus points for the three or four people who know)...

[audio]KinoSport - 800lbs of Awesome [ramp311] - KinoSport
Big-time hamfisted techno that is guaranted to incite some sort of reaction. This is even better than listening to your shoes in the dryer! To wit: you'll find epic techno aspirations in 'Iron Workers No. 29," full-tilt acid moments in "Dirty Swap," and daft electro bits in "Polarizing Tactics." Fresh for 1988.

[audio]Konsumprodukt - How to Build Your Own Microcosm [ramp3009]
"There are other worlds but they are in this one. Paul Eluard Konsumprodukt is the music project of Spanish artist Alejandro Remeseiro. Using a potent mixture of speech samples, vintage recordings, and electro-pop drums, Konsumprodukt creates a vivid soundtrack for our fantastic postmodern life. The four tracks on How to Build Your Own Microcosm are composed for home listening, dancing in the discotheque, and reflecting on the role technology plays in our lives...

[audio]Rewind Wonderland - Sleep Management [ramp3004] - Rewind Wonderland
There is quite an organic feel to Rewind Wonderland's electronic hum, and one can only speculate as to where the sound sources originate from. Whether it's the sequenced guitar sparks on "A Deeply Rooted Fear Of Trees", or the warm electric piano of "Professional Impulses", the quartet weave a lush tapestry of sharp-cornered rhythms and smooth harmonic lines. To Rococo Rot should really take notes here...

[audio]Mental Tsp - Statik Volume 0 [ramp3008]
From riding the school bus listening to the first Run-D.M.C. cassette in his boom box to marching in seemingly futile street protests 15 years later, mental tsp filters personal experiences through rusty machines into beat-based sonic output. Statik Volume 0 collects 14 studies of mutilated sound samples hacked onto various familiar rhythmical skeletons. Structural simplicity and complexity are explored on a harsh electronic canvas.

[audio]Stochastic - Geek Beats [RAmp315]
Stochastic started composing tracks in 1992. Early experiments consisted of hacksawing bedframes to the rhythm of a radio shack drum machine while a mic tied to a spinning ceiling fan recorded the fray. From there, influenced heavily by the Warp/Rephlex/Skam labels as well as elektro acts like Drexciya and early 1980s video game soundtracks, he began formulating the foundation for Geek Beat.

[audio]Addisko - Wo Hop [ramp314]
As one half of the acclaimed Tomorrowland duo, Stephen Baker has become quite expert at fusing low end frequencies with filtered guitar arrangements that evoke expansive scenes cast in warm hues. Now he strikes out on his own with Addisko and the focus is sharper and more synthetic. Each sound on Wo Hop stands in high-contrast to its neighbor and although various strains of dub, hip-hop, synthetic funk, and acid collide, the final impression is of a cogent new sound that is unparalleled.
